About Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony (RPWS)
The Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony (RPWS) began its humble musical path on 1st August 2003 as part of the school’s Centre for Culture and Communication’s multi-faceted cultural activities by their own RP students, Darius Joel Seow with the unconditional effort of co-founders Stanley Tan and Pang Mei Hui.

Under the baton of Mr. David Anthony Glosz then, the band staffed its very first performance on the 1st December 2004 in the Republic Polytechnic Plaza back in the Tanglin Campus, with just 18 enthusiastic musicians. Since its inception, the highly versatile band has performed a wide spectrum of music from classical transcriptions to jazz, pop, contemporary compositions and a comprehensive range of concert band music.
The band gave its first public performance at Bishan Park in September 2005. RPWS also plated host to the WASBE 2005 outreach concert, forging good friendship with fellow musicians from the Hong Kong Young Musician’s Wind Orchestra (Hong Kong), Tel Aviv YAFO Youth Symphonic Band (Israel) and TWGHS Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band (Hong Kong) during their visit to Singapore in August 2005.
Since the Polytechnic’s big moves from Tanglin Campus to Woodlands, the Wind Symphony began its new chapter of history under the baton of CPT Muhd Yusri B Md Ali.
Though tender in age, the band supports various internal events and lunchtime concerts with their familiar, light-hearted repertoire, and has collaborated with renowned local bands such as the Sembawang Symphonic Winds in December 2006. Year 2007 saw RPWS develop and spread its wind, with events lined up back-to-back: a musicial exchange with the Singapore Armed Forces’ Central Band in April, its inaugural concert “Symphonie de Republique” in September a second concert “Viva la Symphonie” as part of Reflections 2007 in December and their exchange trip to Taiwan to participate in Chiayi City International Band Festival 2007 over the New Year. Year 2008 also marked an incredible chapter to RPWS’ history with the band clinching 2nd place in Division 1 in the inaugural Singapore International Band Festival 2008.
Today, the journey continues, towards providing a platform that will encourage our young musicians to achieve greater heights of artistic excellence.
