Darius Joel Seow
Darius began his music studies and majored in the pianoforte at the tender age of 6. At 17, he studied violin under Fan Ho Tang of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He then majored in the flute and was accepted into the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) in 1997 where he studied flute under Evgueni Brokmiller, Associate Principal of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Also a former student of the then Principal flautist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) Huang Shao Jiang, Darius performed at the Third World Music Festival in Zurich, Switzerland in 1999 with the National University of Singapore Wind Symphony during his membership stint from 1994 to 2000. While pursuing his Licentiate of the Associate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) for pianoforte and flute performance, he has given numerous performances as guest soloist, chamber musician, orchestral flautist as well as piano accompanist for the woodwinds’ Associate Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) examinations. His passion in piano playing has also led him to perform at the Mandarin Hotel, Swissôtel The Stamford and the Sheraton Towers as guest pianist with repertoire ranging from classical to jazz.
Apart from his involvement in RPWS, Darius has been in close association with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra since 1997. He currently serves as Sub-Principal Flautist and concurrently appointed as Principal Piccoloist of the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra performing at least four public concerts a year with the orchestra. Darius was privileged to work with Alexander Souptel, Leader of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and performed with Goh Tiong Eng, renowned flautist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked closely with soloists Tedd Joselson, Elena Metodieva, Ivan Peev, DarinVarbanov and Midori Miura of the Singapore Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Music Directors Christopher Fifield, Robert Casteels, Woon Wen Kin of the Penang Symphony Orchestra and Ha Sung Ho of the Hankook Symphony Orchestra & Seoul Pops Orchestra. More recently, Darius has performed with internationally renowned conductor Maestro Helen Quach, who was the assistant to Leonard Bernstein of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Darius has done over eight live DVD recordings with the orchestra till date. He presently serve as Manager of the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra’s Music Library maintaining over two thousand titles of large musical works ranging from Baroque and Classical to Broadway and Pop.
As a Research Scientist by training in the field of Nutraceutical and Biomedical Sciences at the Singapore Science Park, Darius juggles to serve as Alumni Advisor to RPWS and Concert Master of the Republic Polytechnic Alumni Wind Symphony. Prior to his professional work, he has also taught piano, flute and music theory. Darius is also the resident guest flautist with the Singapore Men’s Chorus.

The Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony (RPWS) began its humble musical path on 1st August 2003 as part of the school’s Centre for Culture and Communication’s multi-faceted cultural activities by their own RP students.
