Kong Songlin
Kong Songlin
Under the baton of Mr Desmond Ng, Songlin learnt to understand and love saxophone further. He is honoured to be given the opportunity to perform various solo such as Alfred Reed’s Children’s Suite for Solo Alto Saxophone in 2003 and Ferrer Ferran’s Concierto Del Simoon (Concerto for Alto Saxophone) in 2006. The exposures have certainly enriched him in a way or two and thus, gave him the chance to become a Concert Master. He was further groomed through joining bands like Sembawang Wind Orchestra and Sembawang Symphonic Winds. Songlin had been a guest player for Centre of New Life Wind Ensemble as well.
Now, in Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony, he was given the chance to explore his conducting ability as he was appointed the Concert Master from Academic Year 2006 to 2008. Maestros such as Captain Yusri gave him precious experiences to different areas of conducting and it is certainly one of his most fondest memories in RPWS. In addition, he is ecstatic to be able to conduct pieces ranging in difficulties for several events and concerts. Songlin have also attended conducting Master Classes by Dr. James W. McRoy and Mr. Shuichi Komiyama. Songlin have been exploring his ability in Saxophone both himself and under Mr. Tang Xiao Ping, Principle Clarinet player for SSO, and Mr. Low Chee Meng, International affairs co-ordinator of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra Office Manger and Saxophone Lecturer in Mahidol University. In the near future, Songlin is planning to take a Bachelor in Saxophone Performance and if given the opportunity, would like to graduate with a Master degree in Saxophone Performance in France.
